*One of the savage gang of "feral" teenage thugs who were involved in a number of brutal assault incidents in the capital is facing a double rape charge.
As part of their massive clampdown on the mob, gardai arrested another teenager in Dublin's north inner city yesterday morning following a surveillance operation.
He is the 12th suspected gang member to be questioned as part of the investigation which is being led by detectives based in Pearse Street.
Yesterday's arrest happened only hours after 11 other teenagers were released from garda custody. Sources said many of them are likely to face "extremely serious charges" after their files are processed by the DPP.
However, one of the suspects is already very familiar with the courts system and has been charged with two counts of rape.
The teenager, who was released last night, is facing a potential life sentence after gardai from Kevin Street charged him with the offences that relate to the alleged rape in Dublin in 2012.
It emerged yesterday that the gang of teenagers arrested by officers have been using the Central Bank plaza in Dublin's city centre as a meeting-up spot before carrying out a series of vicious crimes.
The arrested teenagers are suspected of being part of a "feral gang" linked to 15 separate incidents of serious assaults and thefts in Dame Street, Christchurch and Temple Bar.
In a racist attack on an innocent Brazilian in Dame Street on July 23, two teenage girls were involved in stamping on and kicking an unconscious man in the head up to 20 times.
Apart from this racist attack, the gang is also suspected of being involved in a number of homophobic attacks as well as distraction thefts of smartphones, wallets and other goods.
The night before the attack on the Brazilian man, gang members were caught on CCTV attacking a woman and her boyfriend in the same area in a sickening
random assault outside a shop that left the female victim with a broken nose and other severe facial injuries.
One of the most serious incidents the gang has been linked to was an attack on a man in the Christchurch area who was stabbed in the back with a broken bottle.
In the same week, the mob is suspected of attacking a couple in the Dame Lane area and inflicting a brutal assault on them before stealing a few cans of beer the couple had in their possession.
Among the 12 arrested youths are three females, two of whom are under 18.
It is understood that the role some of the girls in the gang played is "even more violent" than the young men involved, one of whom is only 14.
Last night, senior sources told the Herald that at least half-a-dozen more suspects were due to be picked up by gardai.
So far, no one has been charged before the courts in relation to the crime spree, mainly because of the young ages of the suspects.

Ten people, aged between 14 and 19, have been arrested as part of an investigation into a number of robberies and assaults in Dublin.
A number of searches were carried out in Dublin and Louth early this morning as part of a garda
investigation into a number of robberies and assaults that took place in the Dublin 2 area over the summer.
Those arrested today are being held at Pearse Street, Kevin Street, Kilmainham, Terenure, Sundrive Road, Irishtown, Mountjoy and Store Street garda stations.
All can be detained for a maximum period of 24 hours.
A total of 70 gardaí from several garda stations in the capital took part in the operation.
